HEARTBEATS FOR PATCHES RAISES $175,000 AT ITS FOURTH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

$100,000 will be allocated for the construction of the new $20 Million pediatric medical campus in Florida City, with additional funds supporting the critical needs of the children cared for at PATCHES

Heartbeats for PATCHES recently concluded its Fourth Annual Golf Tournament at the scenic Crandon Golf Course in Key Biscayne. The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for PATCHES, a non-profit nursing center dedicated to the care of underserved children with diverse complex and chronic medical needs.

With unwavering support from county and citywide sponsors and participants, Heartbeats for PATCHES successfully raised an impressive $175,000 from the tournament. Heartbeats proudly committed a $100,000 donation, the second installment of their Angels of Hope, a $500,000 commitment to the Village Campaign fund, while an additional $30,000 was directed to cover the critical care needs for the children. Building on the event’s success, Heartbeats for PATCHES will now also sponsor the salary of the full-time PATCHES preschool teacher who is not funded by Miami Dade County Schools. Heartbeats for PATCHES, in partnership with members of BNI Pinecrest, proudly hosts this golf tournament annually, with the next tournament date occurring on November 8th, 2024.

“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous support and generosity shown by everyone involved in the Fourth Annual Heartbeats for PATCHES Golf Tournament,” said Jennifer Resnick, Board President at Heartbeats for PATCHES. “Together, we have not only exceeded our fundraising goals but also created an inspiring and uplifting day dedicated to changing the trajectory of the lives of these incredible children and their families and bringing them hope for a healthier future.”

It is all about the children at PATCHES for 14-year-old Junior golf phenom and national champion, Grayson Richards, a Miami Country Day student and regular participant in the tournament. Grayson has dedicated his passion to play on behalf of the children of PATCHES. “We are thrilled to share that Gray, recently sponsored by Titleist, has generously committed to being the “face” of the children at PATCHES and to represent them in all future Heartbeats’ tournaments,” added Resnick.

Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Crandon Golf Course, the day was filled with camaraderie, competitive golf, and genuine generosity, all in support of the vital cause. Participants, sponsors, and volunteers came together to make a significant impact, raising funds to further PATCHES’ mission of bringing comprehensive healthcare services to underserved, medically fragile children and support to their families.

The event included invaluable support from Platinum Sponsors, including Driftwood Capital, Baptist Health South Florida, Carol Edwards, and Lennar Corporation. Gold Sponsors, comprising Ocean Bank, Russomanno & Borrello, and Stearns Weaver Miller, also played a crucial role. The generous contributions from Silver Sponsors, including Ann Lyons, Dr. Trevor Resnick, 13th Floor Investments, Coral Rock Development, Core 4 Homes, Ellen and Louis Wolfson, Trenchless Sewer, Pinnacle, First American Bank, Akerman, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Paul Fisher, RSM, Withers Worldwide, DHM Hotels, The Sally Goldman Foundation, Commissioner Cohen-Higgens, Commissioner McGhee, Mayor Levine Cava, underscored the growing commitment to the cause. Bronze sponsors for the event included Turner Construction, Ray and Susan Malca, and Commissioner Raquel Regalado.

Proceeds from the Fourth Annual Heartbeats for PATCHES Golf Tournament will directly benefit PATCHES, empowering the organization to continue to expand their outstanding work of serving 75 children with complex medical needs and offering them the opportunity for a brighter future.

ABOUT HEARTBEATS FOR PATCHES

Heartbeats for PATCHES believes that all children, rich or poor, with complex illnesses have the right to live their lives free of pain and have the opportunity to learn, grow, play and thrive and take their place in our community. Its mission is to raise funds to support the diverse critical needs of the children, their families, and the essential services not funded by Medicaid that PATCHES PPEC nursing center provides them, ensuring their opportunity to live life to their fullest potential.

ABOUT PATCHES

Children who qualify for PATCHES Pediatric Nursing Center are usually referred from local hospitals–particularly Nicklaus Children’s Hospital–and may be suffering from medical complexities due to premature birth, terminal illness, recovery from complex surgeries, severe asthma, or other respiratory conditions, life-threatening cardiac issues, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Down Syndrome, other rare genetic disorders, or birth to mothers with AIDS or drug addictions. 59% of the families with children at PATCHES fall under the federal poverty level. While PATCHES receives Medicaid funds from eligible patients, the facility largely relies on the generosity of the community and donors to fully meet its needs. Due to the life-changing therapy, medical care, and educational support, the majority of the children who enroll at PATCHES eventually assimilate into the community and local school system with their normal peer group.
