Diversity, Innovation, and Monumental Art
Art Basel Hong Kong returns from March 28 to 30, 2025, establishing itself as a key platform for contemporary art in Asia. With 240 galleries from 42 countries, this edition stands out for its commitment to global diversity and its focus on representing the Asia-Pacific region, which makes up over half of the exhibitors.
One of the most anticipated sectors, Encounters, presents 18 monumental installations exploring themes such as mythology, design, and human interactions. Highlights include the monumental paintings of Pacita Abad, brass sculptures by Christopher K. Ho, and an abstract garden inspired by the Gobi Desert by Frank Wang Yefeng.
The Kabinett sector reaches a record 36 participating galleries, focusing on solo presentations ranging from Takahiro Kondo’s masterpieces in Japanese ceramics to Ann Leda Shapiro’s figurative watercolors and cardboard sculptures by Vũ Dân Tân, a pioneer of Vietnamese contemporary art.
The Film program, curated for the first time by the independent institution Para Site, will include free screenings of works addressing topics like identity, technology, and ecology. Featured pieces include Vampires in Space (2022) by Isadora Neves Marques and Good Society (2024) by Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings, which explores queer life in Berlin during the Weimar Republic.
