Summer has arrived. It’s so humid Ihave to use extra conditioner to get ridof the Fido Frizzies. My Grand Doghad an AC business for many yearswe would die without AC. I have longhair. People shave their dog’s hair in thesummer because they think they will becooler but that is not so our fur worksas insulation to keep us cool in thesummer and warm in the winter. It’s fineto groom but not to shave. Shaving canlead to overheating. One thing we noticea lot when we take rides is how peoplewalking their dogs have no of
how hot the pavement is for their dog’spoor little paw pads.Sidewalks and asphalt becomesscorching hot. The sand at the beach is
so hot here in the summer it’s funny towatch my Mom try to get to the waterit’s like walking on hot coals. You couldfry an egg on the pavement yet peopledon’t equate that with their pups pawpads and that’s where we sweat from.
We could die from heat stroke from asimple walk. May be safer to get one ofthose grassy pee wee pads. If we lived upNorth at least I could make yellow snow.
Wag Wag.
We get blisters too, you know we dohave skin. Geez Louise! We also noticemany people jog with their dogs inthe Florida heat and don’t even bringsomething for their dog to drink out of.We dogs do get thirsty no one said bringPerrier water but we shouldn’t have tosettle for a puddle. We heard this guyyelling at his dog to get up after the dogcould not stand up anymore. My Momran across the street with ice cubes andwater, luckily she recognized the dogwas having heat stroke.
Every summer just like children usdoggies die a slow horrible death whenour pet parents leave us in the car whilethey go to the store. They think they arejust going to be a minute and buy oneitem and then they wind up needing acart and the next thing they know it’san hour later. They can’t leave us in thecar with the air on because someone willsteal the car and their dog.
If they leave the windows open and thedog is a purebred like me don’t mean tobrag, you know the dog will be stolen.
Even if it is 75 degrees outside inside thecar the temperature rises to almost 100degrees or more. Just imagine on a 95degree day how hot the inside of a cargets. I think you would rather have hotdogs on a barbecue grill not the car grill.
In no time at all the temperature inside acar becomes hot as hell where your petcan wind up with major brain damageor die. Dogs only sweat through theirpaws and cool themselves by panting. If you see a dog or any pet in dangerlocked in a car call the police. If they aretoo slow to respond get a witness in theparking lot and do what is necessary tosave the pet. Governor Rick Scott has
passed a bill making it legal to breakinto locked vehicles to rescue pets andprovides immunity from civil liabilityfrom damage to a motor vehicle.Make sure the vehicle is actually locked. You must then call 911 after yourbreak into the car and wait with the
person or pet. If the pet appears to behaving heatstroke with heavy panting,is disoriented and very thirsty put theminto a car with AC and then to a VetASAP. Give them a drink and pour wateronto the dog’s chest to lower their bodytemperature. Don’t use ice water. If youare only going to be ten minutes leaveyour dog at home. Here are a couple ofsad stories to leave you with a lasting
impression as to prevent this fromhappening to you.
A Vet tech said a Pet Parent’s dog he hadleft in the car for an hour in the shadewith the window rolled halfway down ona 90 degree day brought his poor deaddog to the animal hospital. The dogs skinwas blistered and falling off. It was thesaddest thing she ever saw.
A retired Park Ranger arrested two guyswho left their two Golden Retreives intheir car on a sunny summer day whilethey went boating. The dogs were barelyalive when he found them, he used a slimjim tool to open the doors and took thedogs to the water to cool them down. They were near death and died just asthe boys came back to their car. Theyactually accused the Park Ranger of
killing them. They claimed the car wasin the shade. They left their dogs for fivehours. What a waste of two beautifullives. They went to jail.
