Juan Manuel Martínez needs no introduction in the world of soccer. Known as “El Burrito,” he has always carried the passion, creativity, and competitive spirit that define Argentine soccer. From Vélez Sarsfield to Boca Juniors, from Corinthians to Real Salt Lake, from Independiente to the Argentine national team — Martínez built a career defined by speed, instinct, vision, and unforgettable moments on the pitch.
Today, his impact continues in Miami. As the Coach Director of Miami Breakers FC, he guides the next generation of players with the same standards that took him to the highest levels of the game. As an ambassador for Proffenix, he supports professional athletes through their transition into life after sports, providing guidance in business, finance, real estate, wellness, and personal branding.
In an exclusive interview with Hola Latinos Magazine, El Burrito opened the doors to his world — that of a man who carries soccer in his blood and the future in his mind.
How did you get into the soccer business?
“It all started with a void no one else could fill.”
When El Burrito arrived in the United States, players wouldn’t stop calling him — about real estate, business opportunities, and how to navigate a new country. These were questions he himself had once faced, and that no one had answered for him in time. At some point, he did the math.
“So many players were calling me, I thought — why not turn this into a business? It was taking up a lot of my time. My time is valuable.”
That’s how Proffenix was born — a company built from the inside, by someone who lived firsthand what it means to retire from professional sports without a roadmap. Today, Proffenix supports professional athletes through that transition, offering personalized guidance in career development, financial management, and building a fulfilling life beyond the field. The message is clear: retirement is not the end — it’s a new beginning.
What was the peak moment of your career?
He didn’t hesitate for a second.
“Without a doubt, the most beautiful moment was making my debut with the Argentine national team and playing alongside Messi. That match — Portugal vs. Argentina — with Messi right next to me and Cristiano Ronaldo on the other side.”
He was fouled for a penalty. Then Messi scored. They won one to zero.
“That was the moment I said to myself: I am in the elite of the elite.”
For El Burrito, that match wasn’t just a result — it was confirmation that years of sacrifice, discipline, and personal cost had been worth it.
What do you project for this World Cup?
Surprises. Many of them. Three countries, more teams, more miles for fans to travel — a format the world is still learning to digest.
“I believe this is the first of many World Cups that will come in this format.”
What is soccer to you?
“There is no event or sport more beautiful that can make you feel so many emotions in so few seconds.”
But Martínez is quick to note that what the world sees — the money, the fame, Messi, Cristiano — is only the surface. Underneath lie hotel rooms, training camps, matches, and very little time with family.
“Even they — the greatest of all time — are captives of so many things. Reaching the elite requires enormous sacrifice, both personally and from the family that stands behind you.”
It is precisely that reality — invisible to the public — that Proffenix exists to address. Because when the final whistle blows, an athlete needs more than memories. They need a plan.
Tell us about your family.
His wife is the backbone of everything. His three children — Julieta, Tomás, and little Delfina — are already playing soccer. At home, two rescued dogs complete the picture, a tradition carried over from Argentina. The soccer legacy also runs through the bloodline: his grandfather was a professional, his father was a professional, and his brother, too.
“Now it’s up to any one of my three children to carry on the Martín legacy.”
What’s next for you?
El Burrito didn’t stop at consulting. As the Coach Director of Miami Breakers FC, he brings his elite-level experience directly to the next generation — shaping players with the same vision and discipline that once had him sharing a pitch with the best in the world. Meanwhile, Proffenix continues to grow — with one arm dedicated to clubs, and another focused exclusively on athletes as individuals.
“Getting into the entrepreneurial world — I love it, it excites me. I see myself in that world.”
And he’s right to. Few people understand the professional athlete the way someone who was one does. He currently resides in Miami, and for someone who has played in Saudi Arabia and traveled the world with a soccer ball at his feet, Miami was always going to feel like home. El Burrito Martínez keeps moving — only now the field looks different. And the goals he’s aiming for are of a different kind: legacy, community, and the certainty that the best chapters of his story are still ahead.

Some athletes retire. Nemanja Vučicević evolved.
After nearly two decades competing at the highest level across Germany’s Bundesliga — with TSV 1860 Munich and 1. FC Köln — as well as Russia, Israel, Greece, Turkey, and Japan, Vučicević did what very few professional athletes do: he saw the end coming long before it arrived and spent that time building in parallel. Quietly investing. Learning. Preparing. By the time the final whistle blew, he was already several steps ahead.
Today, from Miami, he runs From Pitch to Property — a platform transforming how athletes think about money, real estate, and the years after a professional career. He has lived the pressure, the lifestyle, the transition, and the discipline it takes to come out the other side with something real to show for it. He is not just talking about the journey from athlete to entrepreneur. He has made it — and now he is holding the door open for others.
Many athletes struggle after retirement. Why?
From a very young age, athletes dedicate their entire lives to the game — the training, the pressure, the routine, the identity. Everything becomes connected to performance. What helped me was that, even while playing professionally, I was always trying to grow beyond football — learning languages, investing, exploring different cultures. Real estate became a natural part of that journey. By the time I reached my 30s, I already had clarity about what I wanted to build after football.
How important is it for athletes to plan beyond their playing careers?
The athletes who think ahead — who slowly build another side of themselves while still active — are the ones who transition most successfully. The money athletes make is usually not the problem. The real problem is that it often lacks structure, direction, and a long-term purpose.
What is missing when it comes to how athletes manage their finances?
“The same discipline you apply to your body should also be applied to your finances. Money should work for you, not disappear around you.”
Athletes spend their entire lives preparing to become professionals — training, discipline, performance, mentality. But almost nobody teaches them how to manage success once the money starts coming in. And that’s where many problems begin.
Is that what inspired you to create your platform?
Yes. I wanted to build a space where athletes can have honest guidance and speak directly with someone who has lived that life and understands what truly works. Not pressure. Not selling. Real conversations, transparency, education, and long-term thinking. Because sometimes all an athlete really needs is the right person around them at the right moment.
What drew you specifically to Miami?
I visited many incredible cities — New York, Chicago, Los Angeles — but Miami was different. The energy, the international lifestyle, and the city’s ambition connected with me immediately. In some ways, it reminded me of Belgrade — my hometown. Completely different in size, but similar in spirit. Miami attracts dreamers, entrepreneurs, athletes, and investors who want to build something bigger. From a real estate perspective, I also saw enormous long-term potential here.
What separates athletes who succeed long-term from those who struggle?
“Awareness and long-term thinking. The athletes who build lasting legacies understand early that they are more than just athletes.”
Some athletes live only in the moment — the contract, the lifestyle, the game. But if you never think beyond the training field, eventually the game ends, and reality becomes very difficult. The athletes who build lasting legacies understand early that they are more than just athletes. They educate themselves. They invest. They prepare while still active.
What advice would you give to young athletes today?
“Think beyond the practice field. Because one day the stadium lights turn off. And when that moment comes, the people who built something beyond football are the ones who continue growing long after the career ends.”

El Mundial FIFA 2026 llega en un momento en que Miami ya no es solo una ciudad sede — es un escenario. Y en ese escenario, dos ex futbolistas profesionales demuestran que el partido más importante de una carrera quizás no se juega en una cancha.
Juan Manuel “El Burrito” Martínez y Nemanja Vučicević construyeron carreras extraordinarias en varios continentes. Ambos eligieron Miami como su próximo capítulo. Y ambos se dedican hoy a una misma misión: asegurarse de que los atletas que vienen detrás no tengan que resolverlo solos.

Juan Manuel Martínez no necesita presentación en el mundo del fútbol. Conocido como “El Burrito”, siempre mantuvo una gran pasión, creatividad y espíritu competitivo que definen al fútbol argentino. De Vélez Sarsfield a Boca Juniors, de Corinthians a Real Salt Lake, de Independiente a la selección argentina — Martínez construyó una carrera marcada por la velocidad, el instinto, la visión y por momentos inolvidables sobre el césped.
Hoy, su impacto continúa en Miami. Como Coach Director de Miami Breakers FC, guía a la próxima generación de jugadores con la misma exigencia que lo llevó a las Grandes Ligas. Como embajador de Proffenix, acompaña a atletas profesionales en su transición hacia la vida después del deporte — con orientación en negocios, finanzas, bienes raíces, bienestar y marca personal.
En una entrevista exclusiva para Hola Latinos Magazine, Juan Manuel “El Burrito” Martínez nos abrió las puertas de su mundo — el de un hombre que lleva el fútbol en la sangre y el futuro en la mente.
¿Cómo empezaste en el negocio del soccer?
“Todo comenzó con las necesidades que yo tenía y que nadie podía darme.”
Cuando el Burrito llegó a Estados Unidos, los jugadores no dejaban de llamarlo — sobre el real estate, las opciones de negocio, cómo moverse en este país nuevo. Eran preguntas que él mismo se había hecho y que nadie supo responderle a tiempo. En un momento, hizo el cálculo.
“De tantos jugadores que me llamaban, dije: ¿por qué no hacer de esto un negocio? Me requería mucho tiempo — mi tiempo vale.”
Así nació Proffenix — una compañía construida desde adentro, por alguien que vivió en carne propia lo que significa retirarse del deporte profesional sin una hoja de ruta. El mensaje es claro: el retiro no es el final — es un nuevo comienzo.
¿Cuál fue el momento cumbre de tu carrera?
No lo dudó ni un segundo.
“Sin duda, el momento más lindo fue cuando me tocó debutar con la selección argentina y jugar al lado de Messi. Ese partido tan importante — Portugal vs. Argentina — con Messi al lado y Cristiano Ronaldo enfrente.”
Le hicieron un penal. Después Messi soltó uno. Ganaron uno a cero.
“Ese fue un momento para decir: estoy en la élite de las élites.”
¿Qué proyectas para este Mundial?
Sorpresas. Muchas. Tres países, más equipos, más kilómetros para los hinchas — un formato que el mundo todavía está aprendiendo a digerir.
“Creo que es el primero de muchos mundiales que vendrán en este formato.”
¿Qué es el fútbol para vos?
“No hay evento ni deporte más lindo que te haga sentir tantas emociones en tan pocos segundos.”
Pero Martínez advierte: lo que el mundo ve — el dinero, la fama, Messi, Cristiano — es solo la superficie. Por debajo hay hotel, concentración, partido, y muy poco tiempo con la familia.
“Hasta ellos, que son los mejores de todos los tiempos, son rehenes de muchas cosas. Llegar a la élite requiere muchos sacrificios — tanto individuales como de la familia que te acompaña.”
Es precisamente esa realidad — invisible para el gran público — la que Proffenix busca atender. Porque cuando suena el último pitazo, el atleta necesita algo más que recuerdos. Necesita un plan.
¿Y tu familia?
Su esposa es el sostén de todo. Sus tres hijos — Julieta, Tomás y la pequeña Delfina — ya patean la pelota. En casa, dos perros rescatados completan el círculo. El legado futbolístico también corre por la sangre: su abuelo y su padre fueron profesionales, y su hermano también.
“Ahora le toca a cualquiera de mis tres hijos continuar el legado de Martín.”
¿Qué sigue para vos?
Como Coach Director de Miami Breakers FC, lleva su experiencia de élite directamente a la próxima generación. Y en paralelo, Proffenix sigue creciendo — con una rama dedicada a clubes y otra enfocada exclusivamente en los deportistas como individuos.
“Entrando en el mundo del entrepreneur — me gusta mucho, me apasiona. Me veo en ese mundo, sin duda.”
El Burrito Martínez sigue en movimiento — solo que ahora la cancha luce diferente. Y los goles que persigue son de otra naturaleza: legado, comunidad y la certeza de que los mejores capítulos de su historia todavía están por escribirse.

Hay atletas que se retiran. Nemanja Vučicević evolucionó.
Tras casi dos décadas compitiendo al más alto nivel en la Bundesliga alemana — con el TSV 1860 Munich y el 1. FC Köln — además de Rusia, Israel, Grecia, Turquía y Japón, Vučicević hizo algo que muy pocos deportistas profesionales logran: vio el final venir mucho antes de que llegara, y aprovechó ese tiempo para construir en paralelo. Invirtiendo en silencio. Aprendiendo. Preparándose. Cuando sonó el último silbato, ya llevaba varios pasos de ventaja.
Hoy, desde Miami, dirige From Pitch to Property — una plataforma que está transformando la manera en que los atletas piensan sobre el dinero, los bienes raíces y los años que siguen a una carrera profesional. No habla del camino del atleta al empresario desde la teoría. Lo recorrió — y ahora mantiene la puerta abierta para que otros también puedan hacerlo.
Muchos atletas enfrentan dificultades tras el retiro. ¿Por qué crees que sucede?
Desde muy jóvenes, los atletas dedicamos nuestras vidas enteras al deporte — el entrenamiento, la presión, la rutina, la identidad. Lo que me ayudó fue que, incluso mientras jugaba profesionalmente, siempre intenté crecer más allá del fútbol — aprendiendo idiomas, invirtiendo, explorando culturas distintas. Los bienes raíces se convirtieron en parte natural de ese camino. Cuando llegué a los 30, ya tenía claridad sobre lo que quería construir después del fútbol.
¿Qué tan importante es que los atletas planifiquen más allá de su carrera deportiva?
Los atletas que piensan con anticipación — que van construyendo otra faceta de sí mismos mientras aún están activos — son quienes transicionan con mayor éxito. El dinero que ganan los atletas generalmente no es el problema. El verdadero problema es que ese dinero suele carecer de estructura, dirección y propósito a largo plazo.
¿Qué falta en la forma en que los atletas manejan sus finanzas?
“La misma disciplina que aplicas a tu cuerpo también debe aplicarse a tus finanzas. El dinero debe trabajar para ti, no desaparecer a tu alrededor.”
Los atletas pasamos toda la vida preparándonos para ser profesionales. Pero casi nadie nos enseña a manejar el éxito cuando el dinero empieza a llegar. Y ahí es donde comienzan muchos de los problemas.
¿Eso fue lo que te inspiró a crear tu plataforma?
Sí. Quería crear un espacio donde los atletas pudieran recibir orientación honesta y hablar directamente con alguien que ha vivido esa vida. Sin presión. Sin ventas. Conversaciones reales, transparencia, educación y pensamiento a largo plazo. Porque a veces lo único que necesita un atleta es contar con la persona adecuada en el momento oportuno.
¿Qué te atrajo específicamente de Miami?
Visité muchas ciudades increíbles — Nueva York, Chicago, Los Ángeles — pero Miami fue diferente. La energía, el estilo de vida internacional y la ambición de la ciudad me conectaron de inmediato. En cierto modo, me recordó a Belgrado — mi ciudad natal. Miami atrae a soñadores, emprendedores, atletas e inversores que quieren construir algo más grande. Desde el punto de vista inmobiliario, también vi un enorme potencial a largo plazo.
¿Qué diferencia hay entre los atletas que triunfan a largo plazo y los que no lo logran?
“La conciencia y el pensamiento a largo plazo. Los atletas que construyen un legado duradero entienden desde temprano que son mucho más que deportistas.”
Algunos atletas viven solo en el momento — el contrato, el estilo de vida, el juego. Si nunca piensas más allá del campo de entrenamiento, el juego termina y la realidad se vuelve muy difícil. Los atletas que construyen un legado duradero se educan, invierten y se preparan mientras aún están activos.
¿Qué consejo les darías a los atletas jóvenes hoy?
“Piensa más allá del campo de práctica. Porque un día las luces del estadio se apagan. Y cuando ese momento llega, quienes construyeron algo más allá del fútbol son quienes siguen crecie
