South Florida has never lacked for ambition. What it has always demanded is follow-through — the kind that builds something real, something lasting, something that outlives the moment.
This June, Hola Latinos Magazine presents seven men who have done exactly that. Different industries, different origins, different paths — united by one thing: the conviction that a man’s work should leave a mark worth leaving.
These are the Men of Impact.
1. MIKE CARRICARTE SR.

Military Discipline, Mogul Mentality, and the Making of an Empire
How a Green Beret built a $100 million insurance company — and raised a legacy even greater.
By Nancy Esteves
Mike Carricarte Sr. is not a man who stumbled into greatness. A former Army Ranger and Green Beret, he carried the discipline and precision of nearly three decades of military service into the business world — and built one of the most unlikely success stories in American entrepreneurship. He identified a market no one wanted, built a company that served over a million clients across 42 countries, and sold it to a global giant for more than $100 million. Today, at 83, he watches his sons carry that legacy forward — and considers it his finest work yet.
“It’s amazing what a guy who barely got out of high school can do. Work hard, think hard, and good things happen to you.”
After nearly three decades in the Army — as both a Ranger and a Green Beret — Carricarte emerged with something most business schools cannot teach: an instinct for discipline, a tolerance for risk, and an absolute refusal to be deterred.
“My ROTC officer told me, ‘If you want to be the best, you’ve got to hang around the best.’ When I got out of college, I had no money to report to Fort Benning. My colonel said, ‘Get a sign and stand on U.S. 1.’ So, I did. Veterans, strangers — people stopped. I raised $700. That was the greatest lesson I ever had.”
The Market No One Wanted
“In those days, Latin Americans couldn’t get international insurance — they were considered unstable, too risky. I said, ‘That’s my market.'”
He founded Amedex — American Medical Express — with a bold slogan: Don’t leave home without us. It earned him a cease-and-desist and a million-dollar lawsuit from American Express. He got on television. The story spread.
“It was the best publicity I ever had. They called and said, ‘Change the logo, and we can live with it.’ I changed it — and kept rolling.”
Amedex became a lifeline for Latin American clients shut out of the international insurance market — eventually serving more than one million people across 42 countries. When Bupa acquired the company for over $100 million, it validated everything he had built.
Legacy in Motion
“They wrecked it. Our company was run by women — divorced women, barely getting by, no credit. We financed everything for them. Bupa came in and said our people didn’t have college degrees. I said, ‘They don’t need college degrees.'”
After five years, he reclaimed half the business and rebuilt. Today, that foundation lives on through Olé Life — a fully digital life insurance platform built by his sons that reimagines access to coverage across Latin America with AI-driven tools and simplified underwriting.
“My legacy is ensuring these guys surpass me. And I love that.”
The Secret
Ask Mike Carricarte Sr. for the secret to his success, and he does not hesitate. “Figure out what makes people happy — that’s it.” His family sponsors inner-city and Catholic schools in Florida City, and at a recent mayoral celebration, he announced that any child who wants to attend a private school will have it paid for.
“The nuns taught me that giving is the most selfish act in the world — because the more you give, the more you get.”
“They all gathered around me and said, ‘Dad, thank you. It’s been a great ride.’ And I thought: I made it.”
Mike Carricarte Sr. opened doors that did not exist. He built companies, raised sons, served his country, and gave back to his community — not for recognition, but because anything less was never an option.
2. MIKE EIDSON

A Sanctuary for the Arts
Mike Eidson’s Most Enduring Case
By Nancy Esteves | @nancyesteves.editor
Mike Eidson’s journey — from courtroom leadership to cultural visionary — reflects a rare evolution built on a single, enduring principle: impact. As President and Senior Partner of Colson Hicks Eidson, he has spent more than four decades fighting for those who needed it most. He won the first case establishing that the Ford Pinto fuel system was defective — a landmark verdict that reshaped automobile safety worldwide. He served as national co-lead counsel in the Ford-Firestone multidistrict litigation, ultimately leading to the recall of 40 million tires. And he led the case on behalf of victims from nine nations lost in the 1996 crash of AeroPeru Flight 603 against Boeing Corporation.
“One person, in one lifetime, can leave things measurably better than he found them.”
His legal career has been defined by accountability and protection. His work in the arts is defined by inspiration and connection. Both arise from the same conviction. In a world often driven by recognition, Eidson represents something quieter and more lasting — the authority of a man who builds, who elevates, who gives without needing the room to notice.
That conviction lives in the heart of Coral Gables, inside beautifully restored historic church buildings originally designed by renowned architect Phineas Paist — the man behind the Venetian Pool, the Douglas Entrance, and Coral Gables City Hall. There, alongside his wife Dr. Margaret Eidson, he has built the Sanctuary of the Arts — one of South Florida’s most compelling cultural institutions, now mentioned alongside the Adrienne Arsht Center and the Fillmore Miami Beach.
Seventy-five performances annually. World-class musicians, Grammy-winning performers, celebrated dance companies, and literary voices of national renown. Pulitzer Prize-winning historians have spoken here. Major documentary premieres have taken place within its walls.
Most recently, the Sanctuary marked one of its greatest milestones — the historic debut of the Miami City Ballet Orchestra performing on stage, stepping out of the pit and into the spotlight for the very first time. Bold, intimate, and utterly unforgettable — precisely the kind of moment the Sanctuary was built for.
That is Mike Eidson’s courtroom and his canvas. And the most compelling case he has ever made may still be unfolding.
3. MOISHE MANA

How Moishe Mana Is Turning the Heart of Miami Into the Economic Engine of a Continent
Visionary developer, cultural connector, and architect of the Flagler District.
By Moishe Mana, CEO of Mana Common
For decades, Miami was a gateway. A point of arrival. The place where Latin America met American soil and stopped. But that story no longer captures what this city is becoming — and few have grasped it with as much clarity, or bet on it with as much conviction, as Moishe Mana.
At the center of that transformation is the Flagler District. And what Mana is building there goes far beyond square footage.
More Than Brick and Mortar
“My vision for this district is not about real estate. It is structural. It is about building an ecosystem where business, creativity, and innovation do not simply coexist — they amplify each other.”
With more than 75 properties in the area — including the recent acquisition of One Downtown — Mana Common is quietly assembling one of the most ambitious urban development platforms in the country. Buildings alone do not transform cities. Ideas do. People do. That conviction gave rise to Mana Common — a platform that weaves together real estate, technology, fashion, and culture into a single living organism.
A District with a Soul
The transformation of the Flagler District already has a face. The Nikola Tesla Tower rises as a new landmark. Public art interventions with acclaimed artist René Mäkelä are reshaping the streetscape. Culinary and cultural partnerships are breathing new energy into a historic corridor.
“This is not about revitalizing spaces. It is about creating identity.”
Miami: The Technological Bridge of the Americas
Through Mana Tech, the platform has become a launchpad for Latin American startups seeking to scale globally — generating capital and opportunity from Miami outward across the continent. No other city in the United States shares the language, culture, and economic ties with Latin America that Miami does. That is not a coincidence — it is an advantage that must be built, cultivated, and sustained with real infrastructure.
“Attracting investment is not enough. You have to build the infrastructure to sustain it.”
The Next Chapter
What Mana is building transcends any single project. It is a platform for the next generation of growth across the hemisphere — where culture is an economic engine, technology an enabler, and urban development does not respond to the present but anticipates the future.
Miami is no longer simply where the United States begins. In the hands of men like Moishe Mana, it is becoming where the future of the Americas starts.
“Space is not only physical. It is a tool for creating opportunity and accelerating the connections that move the world.”
4. JORGE PADILLA, CFP®

Transforming Lives, Creating Impact Through Wealth Management
CEO & Senior Client Advisor, Meira Wealth
By Nancy Esteves
Jorge Padilla grew up in Spain, came to the U.S. on a tennis scholarship — winning three conference titles at Winthrop University — and walked through the door of what was then The Lubitz Financial Group in 2007 as a 22-year-old intern. Nearly eighteen years later, he owns the firm. Now called Meira Wealth, it’s a fee-only, independent RIA based in Coral Gables that serves around 200 families with nearly $300 million in assets.
Founded more than three decades ago by Linda Lubitz Boone, Meira is a rare thing in financial services: a multigenerational boutique with genuine continuity. Padilla has contributed to the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the Miami Herald; holds certifications from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business; and has led the Financial Planning Association of both Florida and Miami.
What Meira Wealth Does That Others Can’t
“We know our clients — deeply, and holistically. A wirehouse advisor manages hundreds of relationships with a sales target overhead. A robo-advisor doesn’t know you exist. We serve around 200 families, so when something changes in your life, we’re already thinking about what it means for your plan.” Padilla measures success not in assets under management, but in what he calls return on life.
The Risk No One Is Talking About
“A handful of AI-driven names are powering most index returns right now. Most investors think they’re diversified. They’re not.”
The Most Costly Mistake Wealthy Families Make
“Making decisions in isolation. The estate attorney drafts a trust without talking to the financial advisor. The CPA does tax planning without knowing the investment strategy. The result is a financial life held together with duct tape.” At Meira, they see themselves as integrators — ensuring every piece connects.
Where the Industry Is Headed
“We’ll see a bifurcation. AI will handle portfolio construction, rebalancing, and tax-loss harvesting — all at a low cost and at scale. That frees us to focus on what technology cannot do. The ability to sit with a client who just lost a spouse and help them think through what comes next can’t be reduced to an algorithm.”
“Real success comes from being the most consistent and authentic person in the room — for a very long time.”
5. CÉSAR GARCÍA

Building Impact in the World of Acoustics
The Venezuelan entrepreneur behind D&C Acoustic and some of Florida’s most demanding acoustic projects.
By Nancy Esteves
From managing car dealerships in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, to leading high-complexity acoustic developments across Florida, César García’s story is one of vision, resilience, and reinvention. After building businesses in design, advertising, and retail alongside his wife Fanny Zacarías, he emigrated to the United States in 2017 amid Venezuela’s deteriorating political climate.
Starting over in Miami, he began with carpentry and furniture fabrication before finding his way into the acoustics industry — a field that quickly became a passion. He rose fast, earning a reputation for technical precision and the ability to execute complex projects. Among his most significant achievements: leading the full acoustic installation for the iconic theater at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, including the design and production of its signature suspended-ceiling cubes.
Building D&C Acoustic USA
In 2023, he co-founded D&C Acoustic USA with partner Donovan Jackson, offering premium acoustic solutions that integrate design, custom fabrication, and specialized execution. The firm serves corporate offices, recording studios, private home theaters, cinemas, and large-scale commercial developments across the country.
Growth has been swift: 32 projects in 2024, 66 in 2025, and over 40 already active or completed in 2026. D&C Acoustic currently works with firms such as City Construction, Origin Construction, SkyCon Group, and JRM Construction Management, with an active presence in Brickell, Coral Gables, Tampa, Orlando, and West Palm Beach.
Those who know César’s work point to an obsession with detail and quality that sets D&C Acoustic apart — not just executing plans but elevating the technical and aesthetic standard of every project. He represents a new generation of Latin entrepreneurs who have turned discipline, experience, and vision into real, measurable growth in the American market.
6. JAIME RIVAS

Meet Your AI Guide: Technology That Works for People Like Us
By Jaime Rivas
My parents came to Miami from El Salvador at barely eighteen, with a dream and not much else. Like a lot of Latino families here, they built their lives around small businesses — restaurants, some of which are still open today under the name El Atlacatl. That foundation is the reason I do what I do, and the reason I am writing to you.
For years, I watched my mom run her business on paper: schedules, deliveries, payroll, documents — all by hand. She did it well, but it cost her hours she never got back. About two or three years ago, I helped her go digital. Then came AI. I watched her go from drowning in paperwork to finally spending her evenings at home.
That is what I do: I review a business’s daily operations and identify what can be handed off to automated systems or AI agents. My team then builds a personalized system for that business. A clinic I work with used to spend over twenty hours a month on insurance processing alone. We cut that dramatically, and their team shifted focus to what matters — shorter waits, better follow-up, less paperwork.
The Biggest Myth
AI is not too complicated for you, and it is not just for big tech companies. The tools are accessible to anyone, and the people who learn to use them well will have a real advantage. Open ChatGPT or Claude and just play. Ask it to write an email, organize your schedule, or research something you’ve been curious about. Notice the small repetitive tasks in your day — those are usually the first things AI can take off your plate.
“My parents crossed an ocean for an opportunity. The least I can do is make sure this one does not pass our community by.”
7. JEFF TOMLINSON

Three Decades Selling Miami’s Most Coveted Waterfront Addresses
CEO, Tomlinson Realty Group
By Nancy Esteves
Jeff Tomlinson, CEO of Tomlinson Realty Group, was a pilot in his early 20s. When he left the airlines and began selling luxury waterfront homes and condos in 1986, he launched a career that now spans 37 years. In his early years, he managed over 80 agents at the largest and highest-producing real estate company in Aventura throughout the 1990s. After opening his own firm in 2005, he has surpassed $1 billion in gross sales, placing him in the top 1% of realtors nationwide.
Together with his wife Kaitlin — a licensed broker and registered appraiser — they run a boutique office with 6 to 10 agents fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Russian, covering all aspects of international and residential sales and relocations. Jeff advertises aggressively, spending up to 1% of the listing price to market each property — which is why he has not had an expired listing in over 30 years.
Where to Buy in Today’s Market
Jeff’s advice to clients: buy single-family waterfront homes, or at the very least, homes within any luxury community east of Biscayne Boulevard (US-1). These properties experience consistent appreciation, and even during market downturns, they tend to recover quickly — especially in well-established neighborhoods from the 1950s and 60s, where new development isn’t possible.
Market Outlook
The market is currently quieter than usual, with interest rates elevated and condo assessments at an all-time high due to depleted reserves and rising insurance costs. As we move into the winter of 2027 and current global conflicts wind down, rates are expected to ease, which should drive a meaningful increase in sales.

Mike Carricarte · Mike Eidson · Moishe Mana · Jorge Padilla
7. JEFF TOMLINSON
Tres Décadas Vendiendo las Propiedades Más Exclusivas Frente al Agua en Miami
CEO, Tomlinson Realty Group
