Goodbye gray, hello earth tones
The year’s defining story is a rich, enveloping earthy palette: chocolate brown holds its place as designers’ favorite color, joined by deep greens, burgundy and spiced hues. At the same time, soft pastels — butter yellow, powder pink, pistachio — offer a fresh, optimistic counterpoint. Color drenching, the technique of wrapping walls, ceilings and trim in a single shade, continues to gain ground among those seeking rooms with real atmosphere.
Thoughtful maximalism
Maximalism strengthens its position as the dominant aesthetic, but in its most curated form: layered textures, patterns in conversation, and objects with a story — all edited with intention. Vintage pieces and antiques, particularly from the 1920s through the 1950s, are enjoying a renaissance, alongside family heirlooms that fill spaces with meaning.
Nature as the through line
Biophilic design now goes far beyond a few houseplants: reclaimed woods, natural stone, hand-troweled plaster, generous windows and earth-inspired palettes strengthen the connection between indoors and out. Sustainability is no longer an extra but a starting point, with recycled materials and bio-based fabrics among the go-to choices.
Organic forms and craftsmanship
Straight lines are giving way to curved, sculptural silhouettes: enveloping sofas, irregularly shaped woods and furniture that reads as art. Few places bring these trends to life like South Florida, where the climate invites outdoor living twelve months a year. Terraces and patios are now designed with the same rigor as any living room: full outdoor kitchens, lounge areas under pergolas, performance fabrics that sacrifice nothing in elegance, and layered lighting that stretches poolside evenings well past sunset. The boundary between indoors and out all but disappears — oversized sliding glass doors, continuous flooring and integrated tropical greenery turn the backyard into the home’s natural extension, and the true heart of its social life.
The new luxury is living well
At heart, every 2026 trend points to the same idea: homes designed for rest, comfort and real life. Luxury is no longer measured in shine, but in warmth, authenticity and spaces that tell the story of the people who live in them.
Outdoor Living, South Florida Style: The New Rules of Al Fresco Design
South Florida’s outdoor spaces are having a real design moment right now — the patio is no longer an afterthought but treated with the same intention as any interior room. Performance fabrics have gotten a major upgrade: Sunbrella and olefin blends now come in the same rich, tactile textures — bouclés, linen weaves, chunky knits — driving the indoor “quiet luxury” look outdoors, so lounge furniture looks as elevated outside as it does in. Deep-seated modular sofas and oversized daybeds are replacing the old stiff patio set, built for lounging rather than just sitting. Furnishings in teak, woven rope, and powder-coated aluminum with rounded, organic silhouettes are trending over anything boxy or overtly “outdoor.” Natural stone and porcelain pavers that mimic travertine or limestone are extending interior flooring straight out to the pool deck, dissolving the line between the two spaces.
On the trends side, full outdoor kitchens have become close to standard in new builds and major renovations — think pizza ovens, built-in grills, and beverage centers rivaling indoor setups. Shade structures have evolved too: pergolas with retractable canopies or motorized louvered roofs let homeowners control sun and rain without sacrificing the open-air feel that defines South Florida living. Fire features — linear gas fire pits, fire-and-water combinations — are a near-must for evening entertaining, and layered lighting — string lights, uplighting on palms, low-voltage path lights — is replacing single overhead fixtures to create real atmosphere after dark. Tropical, drought-resistant landscaping featuring clusters of travelers’ palms, bird of paradise, and sculptural agave is preferred in place of manicured lawns. This approach supports the resort-like, low-maintenance aesthetic that has become characteristic of the region.
At top design company that does outdoor well is Dedon, German brand, headquartered in Lüneburg, Germany, where its signature synthetic fiber is manufactured. The furniture itself, though, is hand-woven at Dedon’s own facilities on Cebu Island in the Philippines, by master weavers who craft the intricate patterns the brand is known for.

Holzsch Live Edge Dining Table
Crafted from a single slab of solid walnut or oak, this dining table lets the wood’s natural character lead the design — the live edge, grain, and mineral streaking are left exposed rather than smoothed away. Each slab is hand-selected and seasoned before it’s shaped, so no two tables are alike.
Available with a clear or tinted epoxy resin inlay along the edge, or finished simply to let the wood stand on its own.
