Punta Cana, The Picture-Perfect Beach Getaway

Just a short flight from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is an idyllic beach getaway that I recently discovered during an international tourism conference. I was really impressed by Punta Cana’s stellar, uncrowned beaches with calm waters– a great place for basking in sun and relishing rest and relaxation. I was also enchanted by the super-friendly Dominican hospitality. Punta Cana is a reasonably-affordable tourism destination with an extensive all-inclusive concept. It’s no wonder that they continue to experience such healthy tourism growth.Located on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana abuts the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Renowned for its 32km stretch of beaches and clear waters, the Bavaro area, as well as Punta Cana combines to form what’s known as La Costa del Coco, or the Coconut Coast, an extensive area of lavish, all-inclusive resorts that dot the coastline. Aside from my favorite pastime–lounging on a turquoise Caribbean beach– there are actually quite a number of things to do in Punta Cana for all types of travel enthusiasts and vacation budgets.

For the Golfer:

Puntacana Resort & Club features 45 holes of championship golf with six ocean front and 14 oceanview holes on Tom Fazio’s Corales, and P.B. Dye’s La Cana.

For the Active Traveler:

-All-Inclusive Samana (natural reserve) Explorer by Plane.

– Punta Cana Macao Buggies.

-Buggy & Catamaran Dual Adventures.

– Marinarium Snorkeling Cruise.

– Zipline Canopy Adventure.

– Saona Island Cruise.
– 4×4 Jeep Safari.

-Caving Adventure in Cueva Fun Fun: in Los Haitises National Park, known for its pristine mangrove forests, isolated beaches, and diverse native trees and plants. Guests will horseback to the edge of the park, and then walk to the cave’s entrance. Professional guides will assist in rappelling to the cave floor sixty feet below.

-Manatí Island if you like birds and reptiles, but make the journey to Dolphin Island if you’re into marine life.

For the History buff:

-Walking Tour of Colonial Santo Domingo you can actually do this with an app as your guide. How it works: download the iOS app “GPSmyCity: Walks and Articles with Offline Maps” on iTunes App Store or the Android app “Santo Domingo Map and Walks” on Google Play. Each walk comes with a detailed walking tour map as well as the photos and background information for the included attractions. The app’s navigation function will guide you from one attraction to the next. The app works offline so no data plan is needed when traveling abroad.

Accommodations:

Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe, which reopened in December 2010 after a complete renovation, is set on the two-mile-long gorgeous Bávaro Beach. This mega-resort offers endless activities and a variety of dining options, including a tapas bar, steak house, and sushi restaurant. The new Las Vegas–inspired Club House has a 24-hour casino and a spa with a private outdoor pool. Amenities include private terraces with Jacuzzis. For personalized service, book a Club Premium suite, which provides access to an exclusive concierge and priority reservations at the property’s à la carte restaurants.

Natura Park Beach Eco Resort & Spa, located on Playa Bavaro Beach offers a holiday in complete harmony with nature replete with lush tropical gardens and exotic bird life, featuring lagoons and bridges along winding paths which lead to the beach.

NIGHTLIFE
Coco Bongo Show and Disco is a combination of Cirque du Soleil, a concert, theater and a disco! Dancers, trapeze artists, gymnasts and famous movie scenes are all combined to create an atmosphere full of fun. Imagine Punta Cana Disco a series of natural caves backlit in a variety of neon colors. Each cave plays a different type of music — there’s even a chill out lounge to rest in between sets.
