Breast Cancer Awareness MonthTips importantes para la mujerImportant Tips for Women

Ladies, it’s all about early detection! As a breast cancer survivor myself, I am an example of how early detection saved my life.

Even though I was good about my yearly mammograms, in between mammograms I felt a lump and thank God I went straight to the doctor. I was diagnosed with triple negative cancer which spreads like wildfire so time was of the essence. Ladies you need to educate yourself on the symptoms and signs of breast cancer, and any time you discover an abnormality, don’t wait and go straight to a healthcare professional. Monthly Breast Self-exams Adult women of all ages are encouraged to perform breast selfexams at least once a month. Johns Hopkins Medical center states, “Forty percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast selfexam is very important.” By performing monthly breast selfexams, you will be able to more easily identify any changes in your breast. Clinical Breast exams are an important part of early detection. Although most lumps are discovered through breast self-exams, an experienced professional may notice a suspicious place you might have missed.
Fibrocystic Breasts Fibrocystic breast tissue is a very common condition and means that you have denser breast tissue and may notice lumps and bumps that are common to the feel of your breasts. Self-breast exams are a must to note any changes. Talk to your doctor about choosing a breast center that offers digital mammography.

Digital mammograms allow the radiologist to change to contrast of light and dark and to enlarge areas of the breast tissue on the screen to more closely examine areas of concern.
