Louvre Couture: A Historic First in Fashion & Art

From January 24 to July 21, 2025 (extended through August 24), the Musée du Louvre presents its first-ever fashion exhibition: Louvre Couture. Held in the Decorative Arts Wing and spanning nearly 9,000″¯m², this groundbreaking showcase features around 100 iconic silhouettes and accessories from 45 prestigious fashion houses–including Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and avant-garde designers like Iris van Herpen and Thom Browne.

Curated by Olivier Gabet, director of Decorative Arts at the Louvre, each fashion piece is thoughtfully paired with historical artworks–ranging from Byzantine tapestries to Second Empire furnishings–to explore the dialogue between centuries-old artistry and modern couture. Notable highlights include crystal-embroidered Dolce & Gabbana gowns echoing 11th-century mosaics, as well as Karl Lagerfeld’s final Chanel collection presented alongside 18th-century decorative masterpieces.

More than just an exhibition, Louvre Couture celebrates fashion as a dynamic form of cultural expression. The museum hosted a spectacular gala, Le Grand Dîner du Louvre, often dubbed the “Paris Met Gala,” where over 100 rare couture pieces were presented in a dazzling evening that drew celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, and Doechii. Adding to the magic, fashion impresario Jordan Roth delivered a captivating performance at Cour Marly during Paris Fashion Week, blending couture with choreography and multimedia projections in a site-specific show that perfectly embodied the spirit of innovation and artistry.
