-When you realize that December is already upon us, our first reaction is disbelief because we can’t believe the year is ending. Suddenly, the spirit of Christmas surrounds us, and those feelings of faith and hope emerge upon us.
I must confess that I am passionate about that homey atmosphere around the Christmas tree and the joy of sharing the sunrise with my family without haste.
Family is everything to me, a principle that I inherited from my mother. La Colonia Medical Center, since its foundation, has been based on the concept of family. As for Christmas at home, it’s like opening our dream box and imagining the future. I thoroughly enjoy each of those unrepeatable moments, especially with my grandchildren, who do not make me older but wiser.
How does an entrepreneur celebrate Christmas?
-Like most, sharing with those we love. The difference is that for a businessman, the list is long because it includes employees, patients, and all the people who directly or indirectly help make each project successful. I personally visit each medical and wellness center during the holidays to express my best wishes.
What is the meaning of success to Dr. Acevedo?
-Someone once said that success is not the end of the road, it’s the path itself, and I agree 100% with this phrase. It’s the courage with which we work every day to find new opportunities and stay on course despite adversity. It’s the ability to take risks and maintain consistency in everything we set out to do. I feel lucky because, despite being very demanding, I have a team that follows me and is always in tune with my vision of the future.
What were the significant achievements of La Colonia in 2022?
It was a great year. At La Colonia, we always have many reasons to celebrate because we honor our commitment to the health and well-being of our patients, working on short-term projects for modern facilities, investing in state-of-the-art technology, and offering the best services.
In April, just seven months after inaugurating the first specialty center in Cutler Bay, we opened our second center of this type in Pembroke Pines. And in June, we were already celebrating the opening of the third center in Hialeah, completing this project of specialized attention throughout our communities.
In July, we had a grand opening party for the new headquarters in Little Havana. This modern five-story building also offers access to special services in the same place.
What projects are underway for 2023?
-I am convinced that perseverance is the best way to grow, and I am excited to anticipate that by 2023 we will be opening the doors of medical center # 12 in Pompano Beach. Likewise, we remain focused on achieving excellence in all services and will explore the possibilities of new projects and expansions.
Today, La Colonia has more than 1,000 employees and 14,000 patients.
What is your message this holiday season?
-Without a doubt, my message to the employees is one of gratitude because we are creating an impact and positive results with loyalty, respect, and commitment. I always tell them they are ambassadors of La Colonia, representatives of our values and essence. Once again, I want to congratulate you and tell you that I am proud to have such highly trained professionals, such wonderful people who, working as a team, who gave their best this year to achieve extraordinary results.
To our patients, thank you for the privilege of trusting us with your health care. We assure you that when we open the doors of our medical centers every day, we also extend our arms to welcome you to your second home. A reality that we make possible with our hands and our heart.
I feel lucky for the family I have, and my advice is that you bring joy to all your peers, hug your loved ones, and together enjoy the beautiful moments, those that leave their mark and make us better human beings.
