Myths, Secrets, Lies, and Truths at the Boca Raton Museum of Art
The Boca Raton Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition titled “Myths, Secrets, Lies, and Truths: Photographs from the Doug McCraw Collection,” available to the public from June 12 to October 13, 2024. This exhibit showcases over 100 works from five acclaimed artists. Curated by the Museum’s Chief Curator, Kathleen Goncharov, this original display dives deep into themes of survival, exposure, concealment, exploitation, race, and culturally defining designs.
About the Artists:
Sheila Pree Bright: Her series “Young Americans” features young people from various backgrounds posing with the American flag while sharing their personal stories about its significance to them.
Karen Graffeo: Her ongoing series “Cuba” highlights the beauty and creativity of a culture facing significant challenges and poverty.
Hank Willis Thomas: Known for his exploration of American consumer culture and its historical mistreatment of African Americans.
Liesa Cole: Cole’s work delves into the theme of secrets, both shared and kept.
Spider Martin: Martin documented the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
