MIAMI:
AN INTERCONNECTED WORLD CLASS CITY
Nowadays, places everywhere seem to have aspirations to brand themselves with city status
–Masterful, magical, global, cultural, cosmopolitan, sustainable, and smart. Miami today is all of the
above along with its fame for its beautiful beaches and its resort style of living.
Miami residents envision to better themselves by embracing all the anew. The truth is, just a few
years back we were still missing that city status.
Miami is a growing city now having enough people to justify a passenger rail system. The city has
recently announced the projected All aboard Florida, the first time in decades that a privately owned
company in the U.S. will build and operate an express passenger rail system. This new rail system will
interconnect Miami and Orland.
The definition of a city has been long debated. Writer Richard Sennet says, “A city is a place where
strangers meet; where new ideas are formed in a public space.”
Miami fits his description. With All Aboard Florida on its way to offering better conditions for
human existence with this new transportation system – it can be said with mighty force that we are
indeed becoming a world-class city.
